Comments on the second lesson with Despoina
This lecture was particularly interesting to me. I have always been fascinated with color and how it can elevate or change the whole experience and evoke feelings. Through the lecture I have gained a deeper understanding of the different use of color weather it is for the attention in scene navigation or character design or cultural representation. I found the diagrams to be informative and useful in understanding the conventions or the general trend of color use in media. Because this lecture was around the same time as Kelvin’s lecture on color for character design it felt topical and relevant to many aspects in our class practice in my opinion. Thinking about disruptive color use as well as associative color use makes me reflect on ways of using it to convey feelings without bluntly explaining to the user what is going on in the scene. Interpretation of color can be very tricky, yet because there are preset rules it is easier to design for spaces, and maybe hold back on the objects in the scene, rather play with color or lighting.
